Cavalier Women Upset Georgia, Take Third at Great American XC Festival

The Virginia women upset #21 Georgia en route to a third-place finish at the Great American Cross Country Festival today (Sep 24), scoring 110 to UGA’s 119 as all five Cavaliers came in front of the fourth Bulldog. Emily Harrison led the Virginia harriers with a seventh-place finish with her 17:19.00. On the men’s side, Andy Biladeau finished sixth and Virginia also went 10-11-12 to take second overall in the team scoring, scoring 68 points, just behind #16 William & Mary’s 48.

Harrison’s finish was her second top-10 finish this year. She finished just ahead of Kara Scanlin, who ran 17:48.60 and was 18th. Jennifer Beury, Katie Read, and Lauretta Dezubay finished in a tight pack for the Hoos, separated by only 6 seconds, taking 34th, 36th and 37th overall.

Biladeau led a strong Cavalier pack of four runners that was separated by only six seconds, starting with his 24:23.10. Soeren Lindner (10th, 24:27.00), Andrew Dumm (11th, 24:27.40), and Ryan Foster (12th, 24:29.50) were in close pursuit, helping the men’s team in front of the #2 team in Division II in Abilene Christian (3rd) and ACC rival Wake Forest (4th).
