- Kurt Smith carried the flag to lead the Cavaliers onto the field this afternoon.
- Connor Hughes joined the captains for the coin toss today in place of Marques Hagans who has elected to remain in the locker room with his teammates.
- Game balls were awarded to Brad Butler (offense), Kwakou Robinson and Brennan Schmidt (defense), Kevin Bradley (special teams) and weight coach Evan Marcus.
- Wali Lundy’s reception in the 1st quarter was his 100th of his career. He is the 13th player in school history to reach 100 catches and just the third running back. The other two running backs to accomplish this feat are Terry Kirby and Alvin Pearman. Lundy finished with three receptions and is in 12th place in school history with 102 receptions.
- Aaron Clark became the eighth true freshman to play for the Cavaliers this season. He played on the kick scoring team, as well as linebacker.
- Marques Hagans‘ 46-yard touchdown pass to Tom Santi was UVa’s longest touchdown pass of the season. It also tied Santi’s career long reception. He had a 46-yarder against Duke last year.
- Deyon Williams celebrated his 20th birthday by catching two TD passes, the first multi-touchdown game of his career. He is the first UVa WR with a 2-touchdown game since Ryan Sawyer had two TDs vs. <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>WakeForest in 2002.
- John Phillips‘ touchdown catch in the 3rd quarter was his first touchdown reception and his first catch of his career. He made his collegiate debut at TE on the previous play.
- Marques Hagans set a career high with 4 touchdown passes. His previous high was 3 against Western Michigan in 2003. It is the first 4-touchdown game by a UVa QB since Matt Schaub tossed 4 against N.C.State in 2003.
- Michael Johnson’s 68-yard kickoff return in the 4th quarter was his first of the season. It is the longest kickoff return of his career.
- Christian Olsen played in his 1st game of the season, throwing and completing his first pass this year. He finished with two completions in four attempts for 40 yards.
- Theirrien Davis’ 25-yard reception in the 4th quarter was his first of the season and the longest of his career.
- Virginia has now won 14 of its last 15 Homecoming games, including five in a row.
- The Cavaliers have won 19 of the last 23 games against Duke to take a 30-27 series lead. Virginia has scored at least 34 points in 13 of the last 23 meetings and outscored the Blue Devils 519-191 in the last 16 games.
- Kai Parham led the team in tackling for the third game in a row this season with 12 stops.
- The Cavaliers intercepted 3 passes today, their most since picking off 3 vs. Western Michigan in 2003.
