GREENSBORO, N.C. – Two Virginia football players earned ACC Player of the Week accolades, the conference announced on Monday.

Junior linebacker Kai Parham (Virginia Beach, Va.) shared the Defensive Lineman of the Week honors, while freshman guard Branden Albert (Glen Burnie, Md.) shared Rookie of the Week accolades.

In Virginia’s 38-7 win over Duke in the ACC opener, Parham led UVa for the third consecutive game with 12 tackles, five of which were solo tackles. The junior also had three tackles for loss, including a strip sack. UVa recovered the fumble to put up the game’s first score. The Blue Devils gained just 215 yards of offense and averaged 2.7 yards per rush.

The ACC honor is the third in Parham’s UVa career and second consecutive this season.

A true freshman, Albert helped UVa to 110 rushing yards and 324 yards of total offense in the win over Duke. He played all 64 snaps and graded out at 74% with multiple knockdowns. Virginia averaged 5.4 yards per play in the game. Albert started his third straight game.

The ACC honor is the first in Albert’s UVa career.

The No. 19/18 Virginia Cavaliers (3-0, 1-0 ACC) travel to Maryland (2-2, 1-1 ACC) on Oct. 1 for a Noon game. Jefferson Pilot will televise the game.
