CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia men’s soccer goalkeeper Ryan Burke (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week conference officials announced Monday. Burke posted back-to-back shutouts last week at home against Mount St. Mary’s and No. 2 North Carolina. Burke was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
Burke started the week with a shutout performance in Virginia’s 4-0 win over Mt. St. Mary’s. The junior keeper faced 12 shots saving all four on goal in 90 minutes of action.
In Saturday’s match against North Carolina, Burke kept the Tar Heels off the scoreboard for his league leading seventh shutout of the season. It was the third consecutive shutout of the Tar Heels in Klockner Stadium. The Cumberland Foreside, Maine native made three saves in the game in guiding the Cavaliers to a perfect 3-0-0 record in conference play this season.
The honors are the first for a Cavalier this season.
Burke and the Cavaliers are back in action this week as they host Monmouth at 5 p.m. on Wednesday before traveling to face Clemson on Friday at 7:00 pm.
