TULSA, Okla. – Two Cavaliers advanced to the main draw of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships Wednesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) and Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia) advanced from the qualifying draw and join three Cavaliers who were already selected for the main draw.
Huey, ranked No. 122 nationally, advanced by cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 82 ranked Ytai Abougzir of Florida State. Huey will meet No. 46 ranked James Wan of Stanford in the first round of the main draw. Miklo, ranked No. 61 nationally, lost to No. 70 ranked Andrew Hamar of Wake Forest in three sets. However, Miklo advanced to the main draw as a “lucky loser” and will meet No. 9 ranked KC Corkery of Stanford in the first round of the main draw. Jarrett Chirico (Sarasota, Fla.) also fell in the final round of qualifying, as he was defeated by No. 97 ranked Max Jones of New Mexico.
Three Cavaliers automatically qualified for the main draw. No. 12 ranked Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) is the tournament’s No. 10 seed and will open play Thursday with a first round match with No. 41 ranked Roger Gubser of Texas. No. 16 ranked Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) is the No. 13 seed and will play No. 86 Strahinja Bobusic of Georgia, who advanced from the qualifying draw. No. 45 ranked Darrin Cohen (Lafayette, Calif.) opens play with a first round match with No. 13 ranked Luke Shields of Boise State.
The main draw of doubles also begins on Thursday with one Cavalier team participating. No. 11 ranked Devvarman and Huey are the No. 8 seed and have a first-round match with No. 34 ranked Rafael Abreu and Jacopo Tezza of TCU.
