FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Virginia women’s tennis team competed this weekend at the USTA Women’s College Invitational held at the USTA National Tennis Center, home of the US Open.
Highlighting the play for the Cavaliers was first-year Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.), who advanced to the Flight D1 singles final that will be played on Monday. She won three matches to reach the final. In doubles, the team of Caroline Hammond (Williamsburg, Va.) and Kristen James (Clifton, Va.) won three matches to reach the B1 doubles final before falling in the championship match.
“Amanda has had a very good tournament,” said Virginia head coach Mark Guilbeau. “It is nice to see a young player have a strong tournament for the second week in a row. Amanda played at very high level and with a lot of composure.”
