UVa Schedules ‘Hoos Hoops Madness as Basketball Gets Underway

CHARLOTTESVILLE – University of Virginia fans have their first opportunity to see the Cavaliers’ men’s and women’s basketball teams on Friday (Oct. 14) when “Hoos Hoops Madness” is held at University Hall from 5:30-8:15 p.m. Among the event highlights are an autograph session with players, short scrimmages by both teams and fan contests.

The event, which is free of charge and open to the public, begins at 5:30 p.m. with a “Fan Fest” in front of University Hall featuring the distribution of men’s and women’s basketball posters and an autograph session with members of both teams. The “Fan Fest” also includes music, the bounce house, sign-up opportunities for contests and the kids club, cotton candy and popcorn, and a chicken wing-eating contest for UVa students.

The event moves inside University Hall at 6:30 p.m. with fan contests, addresses by women’s head coach Debbie Ryan and men’s head coach Dave Leitao, the introduction of players from both teams, a UVa Dance Team performance and music by the Virginia Marching Band. Three-point shooting and dunk contests are also scheduled for Virginia players along with a “Get to Know the Players” Jeopardy game. The event concludes with short scrimmages by both teams.

“Hoos Hoops Madness” is sponsored in part by Crutchfield, the University Bookstore, Wild Wings Cafe and Wachovia.

Practice for the 2005-06 season begins for the Virginia basketball teams on Oct. 15.
