CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia baseball team will host the third annual “Orange vs. Blue World Series” on Oct. 19-21 at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium to wrap up its fall practice sessions. The Cavaliers will participate in three intra-squad scrimmages consisting of two teams, the Orange team and the Blue team. Game times will be at 6 p.m. each day with batting practice beginning at 4 p.m. Admission to the games is free to the public.
Teams will be selected in the draft next Monday, Oct. 17. An assistant coach will be assigned to coach each team.
All three games of the Orange vs. Blue World Series will be seven (7) inning contests. The series will be a best of three championship. However, if one team loses the first two games, it may still win the championship by winning the final game by the run differential of the first two contests (If run differential combined is four runs for games one and two, then five runs wins the series). If Game 3 is rained out and the first two games are split, run differential will determine which of the two teams wins the championship. Each team is encouraged to score as many runs as possible.
Home teams and visiting teams will be assigned at the time of the draft. The squads will play with a nine man line-up and no pitcher may pitch more than five innings nor throw more than 100 pitches. A pitcher can only throw in two games.
Fans are encouraged to attend each day’s game. Virginia baseball items will be given away after each game. Autograph opportunities will be available after each game. The entire team will participate in an autograph session after the final game of the series on Oct. 21.
