CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia women’s golf team moved up eight spots to rank No. 12 nationally, Golfweek.com announced on Tuesday.
The No. 12 ranking is the highest in the program’s two-plus seasons. The previous highest was a No. 14 showing in the first poll last fall.
Individually, junior Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) is ranked No. 19 nationally, while sophomore Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Fla.) is ranked No. 20 with a 71.40 each. Both Mielbrecht and Wigger claimed Top 10 finishes at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational last week, helping UVa to a fifth-place finish.
The Cavaliers, under the guidance of third-year head coach Jan Mann, return to action on Oct. 28-30 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
