CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team is the recipient of National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Academic Team honors for its performance in the classroom during the 2004-05 academic year. As a team, UVa players totaled a 3.135 cumulative GPA to rank 50th among all Division I teams.
A total of 82 Division I teams garnered All-Academic Team accolades and UVa was one of only two Atlantic Coast Conference schools to receive the award. NC State ranked 45th with its 3.152 team GPA.
The NFCA All-Academic Team awards are based on cumulative team grade-point averages submitted by NFCA member head coaches for the 2004-05 academic year.
Virginia, under the direction of first-year head coach Karen Johns, opens its fall season with a doubleheader against George Mason on Saturday (October 15) at The Park. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. The Cavaliers will also play a doubleheader at The Park against Longwood on October 22 at 1:00 p.m. and then wrap up the fall season with an alumni game at noon on October 29.
