The men’s cross country team, ranked #29 nationally, used the strength of a tight pack to upset four ranked teams, including #10 Cal Poly, to take sixth place at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet today held in Terre Haute, IN. A scant 26 seconds separated the top five finishers for the Cavaliers, who were led by Jan Foerster, who took 34th overall with a time of 24:23. Just behind him in 36th was Ryan Foster, as the Hoos upset Cal Poly along with #17 Florida State, #18 Ohio State, and #21 Indiana. On the women’s side, the Cavaliers upset #21 Butler en route to an eighth-place finish.

Foerster and Foster finished just ahead of Andy Biladeau, who took 49th overall with a time of 24:34. Soeren Lindner and Andrew Dumm followed shortly, with Dumm across the line in 24:49, just 26 seconds after Foerster. The Cavaliers were the third team to have all five runners across the line.

Kara Scanlin led Virginia with her 20:59, earning her 31st place. Emily Harrison was just nine seconds behind her, taking 39th overall. The women finished behind six teams all of which are ranked in the top 13 nationally.
