CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Ryan Hudson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and first-year second baseman Greg Miclat threw out the tying run at home plate in the top of the seventh inning to end the game as the Blue team held on to defeat the Orange team, 3-2, Thursday night at Davenport Field in Game two of the Orange-Blue Series. The win evened the series, 1-1. The final game of the series will be played Friday night at 6 p.m.
Centerfielder Mike Mitchell finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored for Blue. Andrew Carraway tossed 2 2/3 innings in relief to pick up the win. He struck out one batter and walked one while allowing two hits. Left-hander Alex Smith picked up the save after recording the final out. Robert Poutier started the game for the Blue Team and earned a no decision. He struck out six in four innings of work and allowed three hits and two unearned runs.
With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Mitchell led off with a single to center field. Tim Henry’s sacrifice bunt moved the runner over to second base. Hudson singled down the left field line to bring in Mitchell for the eventual game-winner.
Orange tried to rally in the top of the seventh. David Adams walked with two outs. Sean Doolittle blooped one right over the first baseman’s head which dropped into fair territory. Miclat collected the ball and threw Adams out at home to end the game.
Orange scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second. After Tom Hagan singled, Beau Seabury executed the hit-and-run when singled to left field putting runners on the corners. Chance Gilmore loaded the bases when he reached on a throwing error. John Scaglione then reached first base on a error allowing both Hagan and Seabury to score for a 2-0 Orange lead.
Blue cut its deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the second. Mike Campagna singled and moved to second on a ground out. He later scored on a throwing error for Blue’s first run.
Mitchell led of the bottom of the third with a single up the middle for Blue. Tim Henry’s sacrifice bunt moved Mitchell over to second. Hudson’s RBI single tied the game, 2-2.
Hagan finished 2-for-3 with one run scored for the Orange. Henry, Farrell, Campagna and Matt Bernstine each added one hit for Blue. Doolittle, Brandon Guyer, Seabury and Scaglione each had one hit for the Orange.
Left-hander Pat McAnaney tossed three innings for Orange. He struck out three while allowing one earned run on four hits. Doolittle took the loss in relief. He gave up one earned run on four hits in three innings.
The final game of the Orange-Blue Series is open to the public. The team will be available for autographs after Friday night’s game.
