CHARLOTTESVILLE – Four members of the Virginia women’s soccer team were named first team All-Mid Atlantic Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Third-year defender Becky Sauerbrunn (St. Louis, Mo.), fourth-year midfielders Sarah Huffman (Flower Mound, Texas) and Noelle Keselica (Gaithersburg, Md.), and first-year forward Jess Rostedt (Kent, Ohio) were all honored as the Cavaliers’ four first-team selections tie the school record set in 1991.
Sauerbrunn was honored as a first team All-Region performer for the second time in her career, as she was also honored as a freshman in 2003. This season, Sauerbrunn anchored a Cavalier defense that tied the school record of 14 shutouts and allowed just 7.1 shots per game. She played every minute of the season while offensively contributing one goal and two assists.
Huffman was named All-Region for the third time in her career, the second time on the first-team. This season, Huffman led the Cavaliers in assists with eight while also scoring four goals. She ended her Cavalier career with 28 career assists, the second most in school history.
Keselica was named first team All-Region for the first time after earning third team All-Region accolades last season. During her senior season, she set career highs with nine goals and 24 points. Her six assists this season gave her 26 for her career, fourth most in school history.
Rostedt was the only freshman to be named first-team All-Region. The 2005 ACC Freshman of the Year led the Cavaliers in scoring with 29 points on 12 goals and five assists this season. Her 29 points was the third most by a first-year in school history.
By earning first-team All-Region honors, all four players are now eligible for NSCAA All-American consideration. The organization will announce its All-American teams later this month. Sauerbrunn and Huffman will be looking for their second NSCAA All-America honors as Sauerbrunn was a first-team NSCAA All-American in 2003 and Huffman was a second-team NSCAA All-American in 2004.
