CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 11 ranked Virginia men’s tennis team stayed unbeaten in the ACC as they topped No. 14 Clemson 5-0 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 16-5 on the season, 6-0 in the ACC with the win.

The Cavaliers opened the contest by winning the doubles point for the tenth consecutive match. The No. 55 ranked team of Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.) scored an 8-3 win over Jarmaine Jenkins and Clement Reix at No. 1 doubles. The No. 18 ranked duo of Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexnadria, Va.) clinched the opening point with their 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles over Sander Koning and Ryan Young. Darrin Cohen (Lafayette, Calif.) and Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.) completed the doubles sweep by downing Brett Twente and Ian Keeler in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, the Cavaliers extended their lead to 2-0 as Cohen downed Twente 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. That advantage became 3-0 as Huey defeated Young 7-6, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia) then clinched the match with his 6-4, 6-0 win over Paul Koenke at No. 5 singles. Rizza added a win over Jenkins in a third set superbreaker at No. 3 singles for the Cavaliers, but the Tigers won in superbreakers at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

The win extends the Cavaliers’ conference winning streak to 17 consecutive ACC regular season matches and 23 ACC matches overall. The win was also Virginia’s tenth consecutive ACC road win.

The Cavaliers conclude their four-match road trip Wednesday as they visit Maryland. Match time is 3:00 p.m.
