CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – – The Virginia Baseball team remained in the top 25 in college baseball polls for the third straight week. The Cavaliers are No. 18 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, No. 20 in Collegiate Baseball and 22nd in the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association (NCBWA) Poll. SEBaseball.com has UVa as the 18th best team in the nation, while the Hoos are 17th in the Rosenblattreport.com poll. Eight Atlantic Coast Conference teams are ranked this week in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll/Collegiate Baseball.
Virginia went 2-3 last week. Tom Hagan led the Cavaliers as he hit .563 on the week going 9-for-16 with 8 RBI at the plate. He also scored seven runs and walked six times. He slugged .667 and had a .750 on-base percentage. Hagan was 7-for-8 in stolen bases attempts. Against Coppin State, Hagan went 4-for-4 with five RBI and three stolen bases. In the win over Norfolk State, Hagan was 1-for-2 with four runs, three walks and two stolen bases. On the season, Hagan is hitting .396 (42-for-106) with 23 runs and 25 RBI. He boasts a .515 on-base percentage having drawn 24 walks.
Virginia continues its seven-game road swing this week. UVa plays at Richmond at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The Cavaliers travel to Duke this weekend to face the Blue Devils at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. Friday’s and Saturday’s games can be heard on WINA 1070 AM.
