Cavalier Golfers Tee It Up at Marriott Intercollegiate

Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia men’s golf team’s final tune up before the ACC Championships takes place this weekend when the Cavaliers travel to NC State’s Marriott Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event takes place April 7-8 at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, N.C. The William Byrd layout will play at par-72, 6,787 yards for the tournament.

The 54-hole event includes 36 holes of play Friday, with the first round starting with tee times on the first and 10th tees beginning at 7:33 a.m. The second round is set for tee times beginning at 12:33 p.m. that day. The final 18 holes are schedule for Saturday, with tees times beginning at 8 a.m. and running through 10 a.m.

The 15-team field for this year’s tournament includes (Golfweek ranking): Colorado, Duke (18), Georgia Southern?, Houston (43)?, Kansas, Kent State (37), Kentucky (27), NC State (32), North Carolina (19)?, Rice, Tulsa (14), UNC-Wilmington?, Vanderbilt?, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Virginia’s lineup will be led by senior Brad Tilley and also includes senior Carter Henderson, junior Daniel McGurk, junior Andrea Signor and freshman Daniel Kefale. Eamonn McLoughlin, a junior, will compete as a non-scoring player.

Signor leads the team in stroke average at 73.33, but he has appeared in only four of the team’s eight tournaments. This will be his first event since the Seminole Intercollegiate March 5-7. Tilley, the only golfer on the team who has participated in all eight events, has a 73.67 stroke average that is matched by Kefale. Henderson is averaging 74.00 while McLoughlin has a 73.77 average. The tournament will be McGurk’s first competition since the season-opening Tournament of Champions.

Duke has won the tournament the last two years. Virginia finished fifth in a 15-team field last year led by Tilley’s eighth-place finish at 4-under 140.
