This Weekend’s Matches: The Cavaliers conclude the home portion of their 2006 schedule this weekend as they host a pair of top 25 foes in Miami and Florida State. Virginia is the lone undefeated team in the ACC with a 7-0 conference mark after a win at Maryland Wednesday. The Hurricanes are 5-2 in the ACC, 13-3 overall, after a win over North Carolina on Sunday. The Seminoles also enter the weekend 5-2 in the ACC after defeating Duke on Sunday.
Against the Hurricanes: Friday’s match is the sixth all-time meeting between the schools, with the Hurricanes holding a 3-2 advantage in the series. Virginia won the only meeting between the schools as conference foes, 4-0 last year at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
Against the Seminoles: Sunday’s match is the 21st all-time meeting between the schools, with the series tied at 10-10. Virginia has won the last two meetings, including a 4-1 win in last season’s ACC Tournament final.
Senior Day: Following Sunday’s match with Florida State, Virginia will honor the six fourth-year members of the team: Darrin Cohen, Mike Downing, Nick Meythaler, Rylan Rizza, Stephen Rozek, and Doug Stewart. These six players have led the Cavaliers to an 88-20 dual match record over the past four years, along with two ACC Championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances, and a No. 1 national ranking.
