CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer program will play the Washington Freedom Reserves in the showcase match of the Kicks for Breast Cancer Tournament Sunday April 9 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md. The game will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will be televised live nationally on Fox Soccer Channel.

“”We are extremely honored to once again be a part of the Kicks for Breast Cancer soccer tournament, not only in terms of having the opportunity to play a team like the Washington Freedom on television, but more importantly to help raise awareness and funds for the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource & Image Center,” said Virginia head coach Steve Swanson.

The Cavaliers are coming off an 18-6-1 campaign in 2005 as they reached the NCAA quarterfinals and finished the season ranked No. 6 nationally.

The Washington Freedom Reserves complete in the W-League and feature former Cavalier All-Americans Lori Lindsey and Kelly Hammond on their roster.

The Kicks for Breast Cancer Tournament begins at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday and tickets for the entire day cost $10. All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Howard County General Hospital’s Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource & Image Center.

Fox Soccer Channel is available on cable systems throughout the nation as well as DirecTV and Dish Network. In Charlottesville, FSC is on channel 125 on Adelphia Digital Cable.
