Virginia’s Rachel Marks (high jump) and Kevin McHale (1500m) both notched regional qualifying marks in their respective events as the Cavaliers competed at the Duke Relays in Durham, NC this weekend. Marks earned runner-up honors with her season-best high jump of 5′ 8.75″. McHale also finished on the medal stand, taking third place with his personal-best 3:47.48, which qualified him for the NCAA East Regional meet in the 1500m.
Lauren Echko took fourth place in the 100 hurdles, running a personal-best 14.08 that moved her up to the No. 6 position all-time in Virginia history. Janne’a Bridgeford also finished in the top five, taking fifth in the 100m. Other top-eight finishers for the Cavaliers included Rob Rankin, who took sixth in the shot put with his 50′ 11.5″, the best throw for a `Hoo this season. Sarah Convery also hit a season-best mark en route to a sixth-place finish, tossing a 130′ 2″ in the javelin. Steve Thompson took seventh in the pole vault with a season-best 15′ 5″. Ashley Gore took sixth in the 400m with her 55.52. Alexa Manning took eighth in the shot put with her 42′ 6.75″, and Matt Gutridge also took eighth, running the 5K in 14:41.35.
Katie Terschel leapt over 40 feet for the first time in her career, jumping 40′ .75″ in the triple jump. Katie Read also hit a personal best mark, running a 17:08.93 in her first career 5K.
