Virginia Women’s Tennis Receives No. 6 Seed for ACC Tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team will be the No. 6 seed at the 2006 ACC Tournament this week at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C. The Cavaliers finished the ACC regular season with a 6-5 conference mark, their first winning season in the ACC since 1994 when they went 5-3.

The Cavaliers will open play in the tournament on Thursday as they meet No. 11 seed Virginia Tech in the opening round. Virginia defeated the Hokies in the regular season 6-1 on February 19 in Blacksburg. If the Cavaliers win on Thursday, they would meet No. 3 seed Miami in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Hurricanes, who finished in a three-way tie for first place in the conference suffered one of their two ACC losses of the season to the Cavaliers, a 4-3 win by Virginia on April 9 at the Snyder Tennis Center.
