Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia men’s golf team is in second place entering Sunday’s final round at the Cavalier Classic being held at Birdwood Golf Course. The Cavaliers’ Orange Team shot rounds of 296 and 292 for a 36-hole total of 588. Maryland leads the tournament at 576. James Madison, which led after the morning round with a 1-under 287, dropped back to third at 592.
Virginia’s Orange team was led by Carter Henderson, who shot 1-under 143 to stand alone in second place, two shots off the lead. Brad Tilley posted a 1-over 145 and is tied for seventh. Eamonn McLoughlin posted a 148 to stand 14th while Conrad Von Borsig is 25th at 152 and Andrea Signor is 41st at 156.
The Cavalier Blue Team was led by Dan Gabel’s ninth-place effort at 147. Daniel McGurk is 17th at 149, Lee Keong Yang is 35th at 154, Greg Carliln is 45th at 158 and John Fizer is 51st at 161.
Maryland’s Blaine Peffley leads the tournament after 36 holes at 3-under 141. Peffley shot 73 in the first round and then fired a 4-under 68 in the afternoon. That tied as the best single round score during the day’s play.
Two players managed a hole-in-one during Saturday’s play. Towson’s Alex Brueggemann aced the par-3, 158-yard No. 14 during the morning round. NC State’s Taylor Crosby carded his hole-in-one on the 179-yard No. 4 during the afternoon.
The tournament concludes Sunday with the final round scheduled to being at 8:30 a.m.
