Virginia’s Tomika Ferguson leapt 20′ 3.75″ and set an Eastern division record at the Penn Relays en route to a first-place finish at the 2006 Women’s Long Jump – Eastern Division competition. She beat the runner-up by over six inches, giving her the title at the prestigious Penn Relays. First-year discus thrower Yemi Ayeni bettered his previous best mark by over two meters in the discus competition, throwing 185′ 4″ and taking fourth overall after being seeded tenth entering the day. His throw moves him up to third place overall in Virginia history.
Ferguson’s leap was the final one of the day for her, coming third in the finals. Erin Crawford’s time of 58.44 is her best of the 2006 season and earned her fifth at the 400 Intermediate Hurdles competition, while the men’s 4×1 mile team of Andrew Jesien, Kevin McHale, Andy Biladeau and Alex Tatu finished sixth with a time of 16:28.03. Later in the day Jesien, McHale, and Tatu teamed up with Jordan Orr to compete in the 4x800m run. That quartet ran 7:30.49 and finished 10th overall. David Lewis also finished in the top-10 at Penn Relays with his 15′ 7″ jump in the pole vault.
