UVa’s Arseneault Qualifies for U.S. Women’s Open

Charlottesville, VA – Virginia sophomore Jennie Arseneault earned a spot in the field for the 2006 U.S. Women’s Open Monday by finishing as the co-medalist for the sectional qualifier in West Bloomfield, Mich. Arseneault had rounds of 72 and 75 to tie for first place in the field of 85 golfers. A total of 17 spots were available from the Sectional that was played at Knollwood Country Club.

Arseneault prevailed against a strong field that included six USGA champions.

She will play at the U.S. Women’s Open June 29-July 2 at the Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I.

Arseneault advanced to the Sectional after earning a qualifying spot in a local tournament held in Pittsburgh.

Arseneault joined the UVa team in January after graduating from high school a semester early. She was second on the team with a 75.50 stroke average while playing in six spring events. She had four top-20 finishes during the season.
