King of Prussia, PA – Virginia senior golfer Leah Wigger posted a 3-under 70 to take the lead after the first round of play at the 95th Women’s Eastern Golf Association Amateur Championship Tuesday. Wigger’s score was three shots better than the second-place finisher.

UVa teammate Sally Shonk carded a 6-over 79 and is tied for 12th place.

The Women’s Eastern Golf Association Amateur Championship is a 54-hole tournament taking place at Gulph Mills Golf Club in King of Prussia, Pa.

The Championship is open to female amateur golfers, with a certified handicap index of 11.5 or less and who belong to a WEGA Member Club (or has school affiliation. The field will be limited to the 80 applicants with the lowest handicap index.
