2007 Virginia Baseball Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Thirty-four home games at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium, including weekend series against College World Series participants Miami and Georgia Tech highlight the University of Virginia’s 2007 baseball schedule released today by head baseball coach Brian O’Connor. The Cavaliers’ 2007 schedule features 56 regular season contests. Virginia will also play 30 Atlantic Coast Conference games.
“The 2007 schedule is another challenging one,” O’Connor said. “We have 16 games against teams that reached NCAA Regionals including four teams that played in last season’s College World Series. We also play several teams that were on the brink of making NCAA postseason a year ago. Our schedule provides Cavalier fans with 34 home dates, which include five exciting ACC home series showcasing one of the toughest conferences in the country.”
The Cavaliers, who went 47-15 in 2006 and set school records for wins, home wins and Atlantic Coast Conference wins, open the regular season for a second straight season in a tournament hosted by Coastal Carolina in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Feb. 9-11. The Cavaliers open the season with NCAA Regional participant and defending Southern Conference Champions Elon, who went 45-18 last season, before playing North Florida on Feb. 10 and the host Chanticleers to close out the tournament on Feb. 11.
Virginia opens its home slate with a 13-game home-stand, beginning Feb. 13 when Longwood heads to Charlottesville. The Hoos will then host George Washington for a three-game series, Feb 16-18, before hosting William & Mary and Coppin State in their first two mid-week games of the season. The Cavaliers also host weekend series with Bucknell (Feb. 23-25) and Delaware (Mar. 2-4).
The Cavaliers open ACC play Mar. 9-11 at Wake Forest. Four teams from the ACC advanced to the College World Series a year ago. UVa will host Miami (Mar. 23-25), Duke (Apr. 6-8), Georgia Tech (Apr. 13-15), Maryland (Apr. 27-29) and NC State (May 11-13). Virginia faces College World Series runner-up North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. (Mar. 16-18). The Saturday game of the series will be televised on the Regional Sports Network. The Cavaliers travel to Virginia Tech the weekend of Mar. 30-Apr. 1. The second game of that series will also be televised by RSN.
A road trip to Clemson, S.C. to face the 2006 defending ACC champions, Clemson, is slated for the weekend of Apr. 20-22. UVa has a nine-game home-stand from Apr. 25-May 15. The Cavaliers close out the home schedule against Coastal Carolina on May 15. Virginia wraps up its season May 17-19 at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Home-and-home midweek games with in-state foes James Madison (Mar. 6 in Harrisonburg and Apr. 25 in Charlottesville), Richmond (Mar. 20 in Richmond and Apr. 17 in Charlottesville), VMI (Feb. 27 in Charlottesville and Apr. 3 in Lexington) and VCU (Apr. 10 in Richmond and May 1 in Charlottesville) are scheduled. Virginia also has midweek contests with Niagara (Mar. 13) and George Mason (Mar. 27).
The 2007 ACC Championship will be played at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla. May 23-27. NCAA Regionals (June 1-4) and the NCAA Super Regionals (June 8-11) are held on both campus and determined sites. The 2007 College World Series is at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb., June 15-25.
