Free Kicks is a series of interviews with members of the Virginia women’s soccer team. In this installment, senior forward Kara Frederick sat down to answer a few questions about herself.
My earliest sports memory is… playing soccer on an all-boys team at age four, and I had to wear a belt because the shorts were too big for me.
Other than soccer, my favorite sport to play is… running. I ran cross country and track all through high school.
When I have an hour of free time, I usually… think about all the reading I have to do for school, but usually don’t do.
If I won the lottery, I would… buy a house with some land and a horse
Other than the United States, the team I was rooting for at the World Cup was… Spain
The soccer player I try to model my game after… Joaquin of Spain, who also happens to wear No. 17
If I could make one change to the soccer rule book, it would be… To get rid of that pesky offsides rule
The most embarrassing song on my IPod is… any Lion King song
My hidden talent is… I can make a `W’ with my tongue
Worst job you have ever had… my internship this past summer. I was a glorified chauffeur, and many of the people I had to drive didn’t speak English, so there were hours of awkward silence. Also, some of them didn’t know about deodorant.
I know its not good for you, but I still eat… everything
If I could be anywhere in the world right now, I would be… in the Greek isles
I just don’t get the appeal of… Tongue piercing
I am ashamed to admit it, but I really like… opera
Most scared I have ever been… when I almost died on a rollercoaster in 6th grade because we weren’t strapped in properly, and they had to shut down the ride.
Book I am currently reading… The Brothers Karamazov
When I was growing up, I collected… plastic horses.
