Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia men’s lacrosse team is ranked third in all three preseason polls heading into the 2006 season. The Cavaliers are the highest unanimously ranked team in the polls released by Inside Lacrosse, Lacrosse magazine and Lax.com.
The Cavaliers rebounded last season with an 11-4 record and advanced to the national semifinals before falling to eventual national champions Johns Hopkins 9-8 in an overtime thriller. Head coach Dom Starsia welcomes 25 returning lettermen, including eight starters, when preseason practice begins next week. Virginia opens the season at Drexel on Feb. 18.
