FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – The University of Virginia women’s tennis team competed last week at the Women’s Tennis Invitational at the Billie jean King National Tennis Center, home of the US Open.
Against one of the most challenging fields of the fall, the Cavaliers had a 14-9 singles record. In Flight D, freshman Austin Hansen (Santa Monica, Calif.) reached the final, falling to top-seeded Kristen Bleakly of NC State. Bleakley had defeated Cavalier Lara Alexander (London, England) in a third-set superbreaker in the semifinals.
The team will return to action next week at the ITA East Regional at Dartmouth, where Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas), Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) and Brintney Larson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) will compete. The rest of the Cavaliers will be at the Princeton Team Tournament that weekend.
