COLUMBUS, Ohio – Virginia junior men’s tennis player Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) fell in his first match at the ITA National Indoor Championships held at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
Devvarman, seeded No. 4 in the tournament, was defeated by Bojan Zsumanski of Texas Tech, 6-3, 7-5. Following the match, he pulled out of the consolation draw due to a slight hamstring injury.
“We thought it was in Somdev’s best interest not to play in the back draw,” head coach Brian Boland said. “We didn’t want him to injure it further. This way he should be able to gat back to practice soon.”
The tournament, which features a 32-player field of both men’s and women’s players, will run through Sunday.
