CHARLOTTESVILLE – Guards J.R. Reynolds and Sean Singletary are Virginia’s co-captains for the second consecutive season. Reynolds and Singletary served as the Cavaliers’ co-captains for the 2005-06 season and will handle those responsibilities again in 2006-07.
Reynolds, a senior from Roanoke, Va., earned third-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and was a co-recipient of the Bill Gibson Cavalier of the Year Award last season. He averaged 17.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists a game for the Cavaliers and also received the team’s Defensive Player of the Year award for the 2005-06 season. Reynolds scored in double figures in each of the last 24 games last season and scored at least 20 points in nine games. He ranked eighth in the ACC in scoring and ninth in free throw percentage (.776, 128-165).
Singletary, a junior from Philadelphia, Pa., averaged 17.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists a game, and earned first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors last season. He is the first Virginia men’s basketball player to earn first-team All-ACC honors since Bryant Stith in 1992. He was also a co-recipient of Virginia’s Bill Gibson Cavalier of the Year Award.
Singletary ranked third in the ACC in free throw percentage (.845, 125-148), fifth in scoring, fifth in steals (54, 1.86 spg.), sixth in assists and eighth in minutes played (982, 33.86 mpg.) in 2005-06.
The Virginia men’s basketball team plays an exhibition game against Augusta State on Saturday (Nov. 4) at 7:00 p.m. at the John Paul Jones Arena. The game is open to the public with no admission charge.
Doors to the arena will open for fans at 6:00 p.m., while UVa students can begin entering at 5:30 p.m.
Parking is free in the lots around the arena for the exhibition game. Additional parking is available at the Emmet/Ivy Garage and at The Park. A free shuttle runs from The Park to the arena beginning 90 minutes before tip-off and for an hour after the game.
