CHARLOTTESVILLE – Tunji Soroye, a junior center on the Virginia men’s basketball team, had surgery on Nov. 9 to correct groin area discomfort.
Soroye is expected to be out three weeks or longer.
“We are anxious to have Tunji back with us as soon as his rehabilitation process enables him to return,” Virginia head coach Dave Leitao said. “We will miss his presence and look forward to having him back in action.”
The 6-11 Soroye has lettered twice for UVa and started 23 games for the Cavaliers during the 2005-06 season. He averaged 1.8 points and 3.5 rebounds a game last season, and led the team in blocked shots with 37 (1.23 bpg.).
Soroye is from Dugbe Ibadan, Nigeria.
