GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia sophomore guard/forward Mamadi Diane (Potomac, Md./DeMatha Catholic) has been selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week as announced Monday (Nov. 13) by the ACC. Diane scored a career-high 25 points in UVa’s 93-90 win over 10th-ranked Arizona Sunday (Nov. 12) at the John Paul Jones Arena.

Diane made eight-of-nine attempts from the field, including five-of-six three-point attempts, and all four free throws in registering the career-best 25 points. He also grabbed four rebounds and had two assists and two steals in 28 minutes of playing time.

Diane’s previous career high was 18 points against Northwestern on Nov. 30, 2005. He snapped a steak of 17 consecutive games without scoring in double figures. It was the first time Diane has led UVa in scoring (Sean Singletary also had 25 points) since he tallied 17 points in his college debut on Nov. 18, 2005 against Liberty. Diane became the first men’s basketball player to score a point in John Paul Jones Arena history when he made a three-point field goal at the 19:34 mark of the first half.

Virginia returns to action on Sunday (Nov. 19) when it hosts Morgan State at 3:00 p.m. in the John Paul Jones Arena.
