CHICAGO, Ill. – University of Virginia junior defensive end Chris Long (Ivy, Va.) is one of 27 players named in the final Mid-Season Watch List for the 2006 Ted Hendricks Award, the Ted Hendricks Foundation announced this week.
The changes come in preparation for this season’s initial vote, which will reduce the list of candidates to as many as six finalists. This vote will take place during the week of November 20, and the finalists will be announced on November 27.
The 2006 Hendricks Award winner will be announced on December 5. Late-season performances and unfortunate injuries have dictated the need for changes to the Mid-Season Watch List.
Named a team captain, Long received first-team All-America recognition from the Street & Smith’s in the preseason. As a tremendous talent and the lone returning starter along the defensive line, he is frequently double- and triple-teamed. The shutout of North Carolina was one of his best performancesyet. He was in on seven tackles, including two for loss and a sack.
Long is averaging 4.7 tackles per game, fourth among ACC defensive linemen. In the last eight games he has averaged is 5.6 stops per game.
Virginia hosts Miami on Nov. 18 in the home finale at the Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium. Kickoff is set for Noon on Lincoln/Raycom.
