Virginia field hockey student-athlete Katherine Bounds was named to the National Honor Roll by womensfieldhockey.com after helping the Cavaliers advance to the NCAA quarterfinals, as announced by the organization today. Bounds, who started both games in the NCAA Championships for the Cavaliers, is the fourth student-athlete honored by the organization this year.
The Cavaliers defeated Big Ten Champion Iowa 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Championships, shutting out the Hawkeyes after allowing Iowa only seven shots and two short corners. The honor for Bounds is her first national recognition.
Earlier this year, teammates Traci Ragukas, Inge Kaars Sijpesteijn, and Biffy Cornelison were all honored. Ragukas was named the National Rookie of the Week while Kaars Sijpesteijn and Cornelison were both named to the honor roll.
