Virginia Men's Swimming Falls at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 15 ranked Virginia men’s swimming and diving team suffered its first defeat of the season, falling to No. 13 ranked Tennessee 134-109 Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Cavaliers’ record falls to 4-1 (3-0 ACC) on the season.
The Cavaliers won four of the 13 events in the meet. In the 1000 freestyle, the Cavaliers swept the top three spots, with Dan McMahon (Atlanta, Ga.) finishing first, Darren Ankosko (East Brunswick, N.J.) finishing second and T.J. Southmayd (Wallingford, Pa.) finishing third. Stefan Hirniak (Highland Park, N.J.) won the 200 butterfly, with Lee Robertson (Waynesboro, Va.) finishing second. John Millen (Lilburn, Ga.) led a Virginia first-fourth sweep in the 500 freestyle, with Ankosko, Garrett Wren (Richmond, Va.) and McMahon taking second through fourth. Ryan Hurley (Potomac, Md.) and Vanja Rogulj (Zagreb, Croatia) went one-two in the 200 breaststroke.
The men’s team, along with the women’s team, will return to action December 1-3 when they compete at the Princeton Invitational.
