Wigger Wins Harder Hall Invitational

Sebring, FL – Virginia senior golfer Leah Wigger took top honors at the 2007 Harder Hall Women’s Invitational that concluded Sunday at Harder Hall Golf Club in Sebring, Fla. The invitation-only amateur event, with a field of 132 competitors, featured 72 holes of stroke play over four days. Previous champions include Morgan Pressel in 2005 and Natalie Gulbis in 2001.
Wigger held a five-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round of the Championship Flight. She started the tournament with rounds of 69, 73 and 67 before posting a one-under 71 during the final day. Her third-round score matched the course record before another competitor turned in a 66 during the same round. Wigger’s 72-hole score of 280 was three shots better than Auburn’s Candace Schepperle who placed second.
Cavalier junior Kristen Simpson finished tied for first in the First Flight field at 309. She had scores of 80, 79, 79 and 71. UVa Freshman Whitney Neuhauser was 15th in the Championship Flight at 302 while sophomore Carly Truitt was 32nd in the same division at 314.
The Cavaliers open the spring portion of their schedule March 16-18 at the LSU Invitational. Wigger was ranked 12th in the Golfweek Collegiate Standings following the conclusion of the fall season.
