Cavalier Swimming and Diving Teams Fall at Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Virginia swimming and diving teams suffered losses in their first meet of 2007, falling at Florida Friday night. The No. 11 Gator men’s team topped the No. 17 Cavaliers 176-104, while the No. 9 ranked Gator women defeated the No. 20 Cavaliers 159-122.
The Cavalier women had several season best times in the meet. Katherine McDonnell (Culpeper, Va.) swam a season best 1:04.63 for a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke. McDonnell also swam a season-best 2:19.19 in the 200 breaststroke, to earn second place honors behind Jenny Steiner (Lawrenceville, N.J.), won took first place points with a finish of 2:18.90.
The Cavalier men two several NCAA B cut performances. John Millen (Lilburn, Ga.) finished second in the 1650 free in a time of 15:24.44. Stefan Hirniak (Highland Park, N.J.) swam a B cut time of 1:47.01 to finish second in the 200 butterfly.
The Cavaliers will return to action next Friday, January 19 when they host Duke. The meet will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
