CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis continued their strong play at the 2007 Virginia Invitational during Saturday’s play at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s head Sports Club. The Cavaliers went 7-1 in singles play on Saturday, and are now 15-2 in singles matches in the event.

Six Cavaliers won in straight sets for the second straight day of the event. Those players were firest-years Britney Larson (Orchard Park, N.Y.), and Kristin McVitty (Woodland Hills, Calif.), sophomores Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Lara Alexander (London, England), junior Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas), and senior Caroline Hammond (Williamsburg, Va.). In addition, second-year Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) won her match in three sets for the second consecutive day.

In doubles, the Cavalier teams of Yahner and Larson, and Hammond and Alexander posted wins for the second consecutive day.

The six-team, three-day event, concludes Sunday at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s head Sports Club. Sunday’s play starts at 8:30 a.m. and admission is free.
