Cavaliers Conclude Play at Virginia Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis concluded their play at the 2007 Virginia Invitational on Sunday at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers won four singles matches Sunday, along with two doubles matches.
First-year Kristen McVitty (Woodland Hills, Calif.) capped off an undefeated weekend in singles with a three-set win Sunday. She earned second place honors for the tournament with her 3-0 performance in the tournament. Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) and Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) also won Sunday for Virginia, as they both capped off perfect 3-0 weekends. Jessica Preeg (Naples, Fla.) also had a win on Sunday. In doubles, the team of Caroline Hammond (Williamsburg, Va.) and Lara Alexander (London, England) improved their weekend record to 3-0 with a win Sunday. Pereira and Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) also won a doubles match on Sunday.
Wisconsin’s Caitlin Burke won the singles championship, with McVitty placing second. Virginia’s Brintney Larson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Purdue’s Mallory Voelker tied for third. The Wisconsin duo of Burke and Elizabeth Carpenter won the doubles title.
The Cavaliers open up their dual match schedule on Friday, January 26 as they visit Richmond.
