CHARLOTTESVILLE – The eighth-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team kicks off its 2007 home schedule Friday as it hosts No. 13 Notre Dame at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club at 5:00 p.m. The Cavaliers continue their homestand Sunday at noon, when fifth-ranked Illinois visits Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers are looking to win their home opener for the tenth consecutive season on Friday night. Virginia (1-0) opened the season Wednesday night with a 7-0 win at William & Mary. Friday’s match is the season opener for the Fighting Irish.

Illinois makes its first ever trip to Charlottesville on Sunday. The Fighting Illini opened the year with a 4-3 win over defending NCAA Champion Pepperdine in Champaign last weekend.

“We are looking forward to a great weekend of tennis,” head coach Brian Boland said. “We are excited to play at home in front of our fans for the first time this year. Notre Dame and Illinois are both great programs, and both matches this weekend should be competitive and entertaining ones.”

The first 100 fans to the Notre Dame match on Friday will receive a free orange shaker. Admission is free to all Virginia home regular season tennis matches.
