Charlottesville, VA – Virginia will hold its annual Meet the Teams gathering for the Cavalier spring sports programs tonight (Jan. 25) at the John Paul Jones Arena. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Student-athletes and coaches from 10 of Virginia’s spring sports programs will be available to sign autographs and take photographs with fans of all ages.
Teams participating in the event include the baseball, women’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field, rowing and softball programs. The UVa men’s lacrosse team is the defending NCAA Champions while the women’s lacrosse squad is the reigning ACC champs. The Virginia baseball team is ranked in the preseason top-10 polls and the Cavalier women’s golf team is ranked seventh heading into its spring season. The men’s tennis team is ranked eight nationally heading into its season-opening match Wednesday at William & Mary. The Cavalier women’s team, featuring several of the nation’s top freshmen, is ranked No. 25.
Parking and admission to the event are free. Posters will be available for the various spring sports programs. Fans will also be treated to free popcorn, Pepsi and cotton candy. Interactive games will be set up for youngsters along with a tattoo station.
“This was a very popular event for our fans when we held it in the fall for those programs,” said Todd Goodale, Virginia associate athletic director for marketing and video services. “Our student-athletes and coaches really enjoy getting to meet our great fans in person and this event is a highlight for them. We encourage everyone to bring their cameras and pins for lots of photos and autographs.”
