NEW YORK, N.Y. – Jan Foerster (Berlin, Germany) ran an 8:02.54 over 3000m today at the New Balance Invitational and qualified provisionally for the NCAA meet. His time moves him up to the No. 2 slot all-time in Virginia history and he is just eight seconds behind the school record of 7:54.90 set by Kris Herdt in 1987, giving him the fastest time in 20 years.
Foester’s teammates in the 3K also fared well, as Andy Biladeau (Lutz, Fla.) finished eighth in the College Division, running a personal best 8:15.81. Alex Tatu (Chester, Va.) won his heat in 8:18.80, while teammate Andrew Jesien (Bethesda, Md.) , running in the first heat, just nipped Tatu in the final standings with his 8:18.53. All four men ran times that rank in the top-10 in the ACC this year. Janine Ricci’s (Maple Glen, Pa.) 9:57.83 is also a top-10 mark in the ACC and is her personal best mark.
Jordan Orr (Greensboro, N.C.) took third in the college 800m, running a 1:51.49 and was the first ACC athlete across the line. His time ranks him third in the conference after last week. Susan Brooks (Burke, Va.) also ran a team-best 800 today with her 2:13.73 that also moves her into the top-10 in the ACC. Brooks was a part of the 4x800m team that took third in 9:10.60. Milers Sara Casscells (Wilmington, Del.) and Kevin McHale (Fairfax, Va.) also hit personal-best marks, with Casscells dipping below the five-minute mark for the first time in her career with a 4:58.82 and McHale running 4:08.27. Both marks are not only team-bests this season but also place them in the top-10 in the ACC in 2007. Sam Fletcher (Auburn. Me.) also ran a personal best in the mile, finishing in 4:17.04.
