Cavalier Women's Tennis Tops Middle Tennessee 7-0

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Virginia women’s tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 7-0 win over Middle Tennessee on Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers have now won four of five matches thus far on their season opening eight-match road trip.
Virginia opened the match by sweeping the three doubles contests to take the opening point. The duo of Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Brintney Larson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) topped Pooja Kommireddi and Stephanie Parkison 8-3 at No. 3 doubles. The team of Lara Alexander (London, England) and Caroline Hammond (Williamsburg, Va.) clinched the opening point with their 8-2 win over Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and Marlene Chemin at the No. 2 position. At No. 1 doubles, Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) and Kristen McVitty (Woodland Hills, Calif.) completed the sweep with an 8-5 win over Hala Sufi and Claudia Szabo.
In singles, the Cavaliers swept all six matches, winning five in straight sets. In the only match to split the opening two sets, Larson used a third set superbreaker to down No. 47 Sufi 3-6, 7-5, 10-8. McVitty topped Siljestrom 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles, while Stevens defeated Parkison at No. 3 singles. At the No. 4 position, Yahner downed Elvira Yusupova 6-1, 6-3. Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Kommireddi at No. 5 and Hammond was victorious at No. 6, scoring a 6-3, 6-2 win over Szabo.
The Cavaliers continue their season-opening road trip on Sunday when they visit No. 30 Tennessee.
