Cavalier Women Third After First Day of ACC Championship

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Virginia women’s swimming and diving team stands in third place after the first session of the 2007 ACC Championship Meet at the Koury Natatorium on the campus of North Carolina. The Cavaliers scored 64 points, trailing North Carolina (72 points) and Florida State (70).
Wednesday’s session consisted of two relays, the 800 free relay and the 200 medley relay. In the 800 free relay, the team of Megan Evo (Beverly Hills, Mich.), Katy Bland (Raleigh, N.C.), Jenna Harris (St. Louis, Mo.) and Jess Lewis (Allentown, Pa.) finished second with a season best `B-cut’ time of 7:16.56. North Carolina won the event in 7:14.38, while Maryland was third and Florida State was fourth.
In the 200 medley relay, the Cavaliers finished fourth. The team of Mei Christensen (Reston, Va.), Katherine McDonnell (Culpeper, Va.), Stephanie Glover (Raleigh, N.C.), and Amber Bialas (Virginia Beach, Va.) swam a `B-cut’ time of 1:41.76. Florida State won in a time of 1:39.20, with Virginia Tech second and North Carolina third.
The meet continues Thursday with five events, the 500 free, the 200 I.M., the 50 free, the 200 free relay, and the one-meter diving. In addition, the men’s three meter diving will also take place on Thursday. Preliminaries will be held at 11 a.m. and the finals at 7 p.m.
