Tallahassee, FL – Freshman Kyle Stough shot a career-best 2-under 70 to help the Virginia men’s golf team move up one spot to 10th after 36 holes of play at Florida State’s Seminole Intercollegiate. Stough’s score was his first under-par round as a collegiate and bettered his previous low 18-hole total by five shots. With a two-day total of 2-over 146, he enters Tuesday’s final round in 18th place. His previous best college finish was 42nd at the Mason Rudolph last fall.
Thanks in part to Stough’s outstanding play, the Cavaliers improved their first-round score by 10 stokes to finish the second round at 4-over 292 and at 594 for the tournament. It was UVa’s second best single-round outing of the season. Greg Carlin, who shot 79 in the opening round, helped to spark the Cavaliers with a 73 in the second round. Daniel Kefale carded a 74 while Conrad Von Borsig and Eamonn McLoughlin both shot 75.
Von Borsig is 35th overall at 149 while Kefale is 41st, one shot behind him. McLoughlin enters the final round in 48th place at 151 and Carlin moved up to 55th with a two-day total of 152.
North Carolina shot 7-under 281 to take a one-shot lead heading into the final round at 577. Auburn is second at 578 and Northwestern is third a 584.
