The Virginia women’s lacrosse team’s match at Temple (0-2) Wednesday has been moved to Charlottesville due to an anticipated winter storm in Philadelphia. The match will take place at noon on the Turf Field.
Parking for the noon contest will be in the University Hall lots. Tickets will be sold at the gate with regular ticket prices in place.
The Cavaliers (3-0) hold a 17-6 advantage in the series with the Owls since the two first met in the USWLA National Championships in 1980. The two schools have played each year since 1986 and are two of the most storied programs in women’s lacrosse history. Both schools have won three national titles, and they both rank in the top four all-time in winning percentage and all-time wins. Temple and Virginia are also two of only seven schools in the nation that have played over 500 games each at the Division I level.
Virginia is led defensively by one of the strongest defensive units in the nation; through three games the Cavaliers have surrendered only 15 goals. Jessy Morgan and Jen Holden, two of Virginia’s line defenders, are members of the US National Developmental Team. Defensive midfielder Kaitlin Duff was named the National Rookie of the Week by womenslacrosse.com this past week for her efforts in helping Virginia defeat Syracuse on the road.
On the offensive side of the ball, the `Hoos are led by Kate Breslin, who scored a career-high six goals in the conference win over Virginia Tech. Ashley McCulloch leads Virginia with seven assists while Philadelphia native Jess Wasilewski has added six assists. McCulloch also leads the Cavaliers with nine draw controls.
