Charlottesville, VA – Virginia junior guard Sean Singletary has been named a third-team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The NABC All-America teams are voted on by the member coaches of the association. It is Singletary’s first All-America recognition and marks the first time a Cavalier player has been named a first, second or third-team All-American since Ralph Sampson in 1983.
Earlier this week Singletary earned first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and was named one of 22 finalists for the Wooden Award presented to the nation’s top player. The Philadelphia native leads the Cavaliers in scoring (544, 18.8 ppg.), assists (134, 4.6 apg.), steals (36, 1.24 spg.) and average minutes played a game (958, 33.0 mpg.). He ranks fourth in the ACC in scoring, second in free throw percentage (.884, 167-189), second in three-point field goals (75, 2.59 pg), sixth in assists, and 10th in minutes played.
Singletary has scored in double figures in 19 consecutive games and has tallied 20 or more points in a game 12 times this season. He was named the ACC Player of the Week in consecutive weeks on Jan. 2 and Jan. 8.
The NABC currently includes 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men’s basketball coaches. The organization was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas.
