Ayeni, Briggs Move Up to Number Five All-time in School History

Meghan Briggs launched a toss of 145′ 0″ in the javelin at the Wake Forest Relays, taking third overall and moving her to fifth overall in school history as she improved on her season-opening toss from last week. Her teammate in the weights, Yemi Ayeni, opened up his outdoor season with a five-foot personal best mark in the shot put of 55′ 1″, which moves him up to the No. 5 spot all-time in the shot put. His toss today earned him seventh place overall. Alexa Manning also hit a personal-best mark with her 45′ 9.25″.
David Lewis tied his personal-best mark in the pole vault, leaping 15′ 9″ in the eighth event of the decathlon, propelling him to a fourth-place finish overall in the event with a personal-best finish of 6655. His score ranks him seventh all-time in school history.
James Erickson finished second in his heat and second overall, running a personal-best 14:44.06. Stephanie Garcia also ran a personal-best time with her 17:25.25, taking fourth place overall. Taylor Smith notched a personal best in the 10K, running 30:35.05, and finished fourth in theevent.
All-American and school record-holder Tomika Ferguson took third in the triple jump, vaulting over 40 feet in her opening leap of the 2007 outdoor season, going 40′ 9.5″. She edged teammate Katie Tershel, who jumped 38′ 8.75″ and took fifth. Ferguson also ran the 100m in 12.20.
Reuben Jones qualified for the semifinals of the 100m dash, running a 10.64 and finishing second in his heat. His time equaled his top personal-best time, which ranks him fourth all-time at Virginia. He is ranked 10th heading into the semifinal round. Huma Husain won her heat of the 400m, running a 59.67.
Kathryn Pettine took fifth in the pole vault with her 10′ 11.75″.
