CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team (8-5, 2-2) rallied from a tough opening point loss to defeat No. 44 North Carolina State, 4-3, this evening at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers won the match with four tightly contested singles victories and claimed their second ACC victory of the season.

North Carolina State opened the match by winning the doubles point. Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) and Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) defeated Berkeley Brock and Kristen Bleakley 8-4 at the No. 3 position for a Virginia victory but the Wolfpack responded by winning the other two doubles matches.

In singles action, Stevens and Brintney Larson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) got the Cavaliers back into the match by defeating No. 86 Daria Petrovic and Catherine Grotz, respectively. Rales captured the lead at 3-2 by defeating the Wolfpack’s Kate Green, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. Third-year Lindsey Pereira clinched the victory for the Cavaliers with a clutch 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 nailbiter against Alejandra Guerra.

The Cavaliers next match is Sunday against Wake Forest at the Snyder Tennis Center. Match time is noon.
