Virginia student-athlete Janine Ricci ran 12 seconds under her previous best personal time in the steeplechase at the Stanford Invitational and staked a claim to the nation’s top collegiate time with her 10:24.65. After leading for the majority of the race, she was nipped by an international runner but still finished as the top collegiate runner in the race with a time .08 better than the previous best mark recorded by a collegian in 2007. For her efforts, she was named the ACC Performer of the Week. She currently leads the ACC in the event.
The Cavaliers return to action this weekend as some athletes will travel to Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Relays while another group will travel to Durham to compete in the Duke Relays.
